If you are a believer then you already know that God has a plan and, a purpose for your life. In order to begin your journey with Him, you must be born again. I realize many teach we are born again when we repent of our sins and, confess Jesus as our Lord and, Savior. I believe this is an important step. Yet, the birth isn't complete without baptism and, the infilling of the Holy Ghost. Many teach that once we accept Jesus as savior we are immediately filled with his Spirit. However, lets see what Jesus has to say about being born again.
In the book of John chapter 3 we read that a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus a ruler of the Jews came to visit Jesus by night. He told Jesus we know you are from God. He said this because of the miracles Jesus had done. Notice Jesus doesn't waste any time talking about the miracles or, he himself being from God. No, he jumps right to the heart of the matter in verse 3.
Verily, verily I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus puzzled with the concept of being born again; asks Jesus if a man can enter a second time into his mother's womb, and be born. Jesus responded in verses 5-8.
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where is listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh and whiter it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
In reading these verses you see that there is a sound when spiritual birth takes place.
There is water (baptism) and, there is Spirit.
Many hang their hat on John 3:16 or, Romans 10:13 both of which tell us that calling on the Lord or, believing on the son of God will bring salvation. I say yes, this is true in the sense that when you believe, you will obey God's word. In obeying the word, you will be born again. If you only needed to believe, why would Jesus teach you must be born again?
Thanks for reading. In my next post I hope to discuss what Jesus had to say to his apostles on the subject of the Holy Ghost.
